SUNeVision set to complete first phase of new Hong Kong data centre by 2017

One of Hong Kong’s largest property developers, SUNeVision – or, to cite its full formal name, SUNeVision Holdings Limited – intends to finish the first phase of a new data centre in the Hong Kong bay of Tseung Kwan O by 2017. The company is certainly experienced in running data centres, as it already runs such facilities in Chai Wan, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan. Its experience in running these will certainly help the company to make the new data centre highly advanced and appealing, as could… reliable data centre products like firewalls, storage devices and blade and rack servers available to buy from specialist UK retailer Data Centre Shop.

An ambitious data centre project

SUNeVision, an IT company under the umbrella of Sun Hung Kai Properties, could also draw upon its experience in providing IT system management services. SUNeVision’s executive director and chief executive, Peter Yan King-shun, has claimed that the capital expenditure, including land costs, for the project’s first phase will not surpass HK$2 billion. His company has previously spent HK$428 million on the site for the new facility, which will be on Wan Po Road. Yan has also said that completion of the project’s second phase will see the data centre area “more than doubled”, leading to a total gross floor area of 473,611 square feet.

A promising future for an exciting new data centre

Once SUNeVision has overseen completion of this new data centre, it will be in an especially strong position to exploit growing demand for data centre services in Hong Kong. Yan has revealed that such demand from traditional enterprises like banks has annually grown stably, at a rate of about 10%, while such demand from new Internet companies that have emerged due to new technologies including cloud computing and mobile Internet has annually grown by 30-40%.

Yan has also revealed that the new data centre’s facilities will be arranged very flexibly to assist the centre in meeting different demands from clients. He has pledged that SUNeVision “will make sure the requirement of customers is met in the shortest time”.
