The East Africa country of Kenya is home to Lake Victoria, the world’s largest tropical lake; national parks including the Lake Nakuru National Park and the East and West Tsavo National Park; and world renowned beaches including Kilifi. You might have already known much of this;.. however, you are less likely to have known that the country is also home to the largest and most advanced data centre in Africa outside South Africa! This data centre is now also award-winning, as what is officially known as the East Africa Data Centre was recently honoured in the “Best Business Service Innovation” category at this year’s Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation awards.
Recognition for East Africa’s most connected data centre
The carrier-neutral facility, which is located in the Kenya capital city of Nairobi, was honoured alongside Liquid Telecom Kenya, the country’s largest wholesale network provider, for its revolutionary work in building East Africa’s most connected data centre. The awards are organised by the highly regarded Global Telecoms Business magazine and intended to recognise work in innovative projects that benefit the telecommunications industry’s end customers.
Many big problems have been overcome by the East Africa Data Centre
The East Africa Data Centre opened in September 2013 and is special for many good reasons. For example, it has been designed to meet the international standards of TIA-942, is Africa’s only purpose-built data centre outside South Africa and has overcome the biggest dilemmas for data centres in Africa, including the common issues of poor connectivity, power supply and security. The Nairobi facility has clearly also won approval from a good variety of companies that have sought to use data centre services, as many blue chip customers, including banks, mobile network operators, cloud solutions providers and ISPs, currently use the East Africa Data Centre.
A well-deserved congratulations is in order!
The UK-based specialist retail company Data Centre Shop congratulates the data centre and Liquid Telecom Kenya on this prestigious accolade. We hope that the successes of this facility and company can be built upon to benefit a big diversity and number of people and organisations.
